Living Like You're Over 100: Finding Abundant Life Today
Finding hope and purpose in every season through the lens of eternity
Have you ever wondered why the Bible meticulously records how long people lived? Those genealogies filled with ages that stretch beyond 100 years—Methuselah at 969, Noah at 950, Abraham at 175. At first glance, these numbers might seem like mere historical footnotes, but what if they're actually pointing us toward something profoundly beautiful about how we're meant to live today?
More Than Just Numbers
Beyond providing chronological markers for prophecy and history, these long lifespans were actually foreshadowing the salvation that would come through Jesus Christ. They whispered of a coming reality where death would lose its sting, where abundant life wouldn't just be a distant promise, but a present experience.
When we accept salvation, something miraculous happens: we transition from death to life. Not just eventually—right now. Physical death becomes merely an exit door, not an ending. But here's what fills my heart with wonder: we don't have to wait to start living this abundant life. We are not appointed to sorrow, even if we exist in it.
For length of days and long life And peace they will add to you.
Proverbs 3:2
The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.
John 10:10
Length of days is in her right hand, In her left hand riches and honor.
Proverbs 3:16
The days of our lives are seventy years; And if by reason of strength they are eighty years, Yet their boast is only labor and sorrow; For it is soon cut off, and we fly away.
Psalm 90:10
that you may fear the LORD your God, to keep all His statutes and His commandments which I command you, you and your son and your grandson, all the days of your life, and that your days may be prolonged.
Deuteronomy 6:2
“O Death, where is your sting? O Hades, where is your victory?” The sting of death is sin, and the strength of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
1 Corinthians 15:55-57
Your Inner Person is Growing Up
The Christian faith is often described as a walk, and what a beautiful picture that paints. Your inner person—born again and fully alive—is growing stronger every single day. Yes, we're still in these physical bodies, but think of your flesh as a bootcamp where you're being shaped into the image of Jesus, prepared for your ultimate commissioning in New Jerusalem.
As Paul reminds us, we're running a race. Not just to cross some distant finish line, but to strengthen ourselves and support others along the way. We're training for eternity while living fully in the present.
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.
2 Corinthians 5:17
that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man,
Ephesians 3:16
Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may obtain it.
1 Corinthians 9:24
I returned and saw under the sun that— The race is not to the swift,
Ecclesiastes 9:11
My times are in Your hand;
Psalm 31:15
Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
Hebrews 12:1-3
What Does It Look Like to Abide?
This is where hope meets reality. When we abide in God—staying connected through our salvation in Jesus—we sync up with heaven's rhythm even while our feet are planted firmly on earth. Things happening in the spirit realm often look completely different from our physical perspective, but that doesn't make them any less real.
Those promises of long days and abundant, everlasting life? They're not just about heaven someday. They're invitations to situate ourselves in our heavenly seat right now. This access to life itself has the power to transform even our flesh—just like Moses, whose face shone like the sun after being in God's presence.
and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus,
Ephesians 2:6
Now it was so, when Moses came down from Mount Sinai (and the two tablets of the Testimony were in Moses’ hand when he came down from the mountain), that Moses did not know that the skin of his face shone while he talked with Him.
Exodus 34:29
After these things I looked, and behold, a door standing open in heaven. And the first voice which I heard was like a trumpet speaking with me, saying, “Come up here, and I will show you things which must take place after this.”
Revelation 4:1
Living Every Day Like You're Over 100
Here's what this means for your Friday morning, your difficult conversation, your season of waiting: You can walk through each day as if you've already lived over a hundred years. Not because you're old and tired, but because you're satisfied and full—like you've lived through a lifetime and then some.
Imagine chapters of your story so rich and full that they overflow into a deep peace you carry wherever you go. This isn't just wishful thinking; this is the blessing that comes from seeing life through the Lord's lens.
The Power of This Perspective
When you truly grasp this reality, everything changes:
Persecution becomes easier to bless because you're living from a place of fullness, not lack
Forgiveness becomes second nature—like Stephen, who cried out mercy with his last breath
Endurance comes naturally because you've been living all along, living well before the audience of the King
You've been existing in His royal palace (as my business name gently reminds me daily). Earth becomes simply a marker, a beautiful measure of the fullness of life that is to come—but that we have access to right now.
But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you,
Matthew 5:44
Then he knelt down and cried out with a loud voice, “Lord, do not charge them with this sin.” And when he had said this, he fell asleep.
Acts 7:60
“And whenever you stand praying, if you have anything against anyone, forgive him, that your Father in heaven may also forgive you your trespasses.
Mark 11:25
The royal daughter is all glorious within the palace; Her clothing is woven with gold.
Psalm 45:13
Blessed is the man who endures temptation; for when he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him.
James 1:12
I know how to be abased, and I know how to abound. Everywhere and in all things I have learned both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.
Philippians 4:12-13
An Invitation to Connect
Friend, you don't have to wait for "someday" to experience abundant life. You don't have to earn enough, achieve enough, or become enough. If you've said yes to Jesus, you already have everything you need to live like you're over 100—satisfied, peaceful, full of purpose, and ready to bless others from the overflow of what God has given you.
What would change in your life today if you truly believed you already have access to abundant life? What would you do differently if you knew you were living from your heavenly seat, not just surviving on earth?
The thread God wove through those ancient genealogies leads directly to your story. Your days—whether few or many, easy or hard—are an opportunity to experience the fullness of life He's already given you.
